Johnson Family Bakery started with just three bags of flour and two baskets — and a love for baking that couldn’t be ignored.
In 2020, Chuck Johnson found himself at a crossroads. After a 20-year career in high-end retail, he was laid off during the pandemic. But before retail, Chuck had trained at the Stratford Chef School, and during the lockdown, he returned to his first passion: baking.
What began as baking sourdough at home for family and friends quickly grew. Chuck started delivering loaves by bicycle across Toronto and selling bread on the patio of a local pub. The response from the community was overwhelming, and what began as a hobby turned into a family-run business built on quality, care, and connection.
Today, Johnson Family Bakery has a permanent home in the Leslieville neighbourhood of Toronto. We bake fresh, naturally leavened sourdough and sweet treats daily in small batches. Our family is still at the heart of it all — from shaping dough to packing orders and doing deliveries.
We’re proud to be a bakery rooted in community, where every loaf tells a story. Whether you're picking up a warm baguette or stopping in for a cinnamon bun, you're always welcome here.
